The benefits of health insurance.

Health insurance has fast become one of the biggest monthly outgoings that many individuals and families face. This figure doesn’t look set to decline either, and according to recent investigations the cost of health care has risen by 36 per cent since the year 2000. For those lucky enough to be offered health insurance through their employers you should make the most of this because if prices keep rising by this much it looks unlikely that the company you work for will continue to make these payments on your behalf.

This trend in increasing prices is leading many people to go without health insurance, but this is a risk you shouldn’t be taking either on yourself or on the rest of your family. Because of the escalating costs of health insurance and medical treatment patients with no health insurance are much less likely to attend their doctors for fear of being forced to pay the exorbitant costs of medical appointments.

People who do not visit the doctors at the beginning of an illness are much more likely to face hospital treatment, in fact the Kaiser Foundation have discovered that you are twice as likely to need hospital treatment if you are uninsured. Many hospitals will refuse to treat a patient that is uninsured and the real fact is that uninsured people get worse medical treatment than the insured. You will probably find that once you have health insurance the waiting list will get shorter and the doors of any hospital will open up to allow you in.

While the cost of health insurance might seem high and getting higher, the cost of not having insurance is even greater both in financial terms and in the terms of the level of care you will receive. Having insurance will give you the peace of mind to be able to visit your physician at the early stages of a possible illness hopefully negating the need for a lengthy and potentially very expensive hospital visit.
