The different types of care that a health insurance plan covers. You would imagine that all health insurance covers you for any medical care but because of the rise in prices of medical treatment and subsequently the health insurance plan a greater scope of plan has been introduced with comprehensive plans only being affordable to the rich or lucky. This means that the different health insurance plans available now cover very different ranges of medical care and selecting the right one for you may prove vital should the need arise to claim on it. Know your options and try to pick the right one. Indemnity Insurance. Indemnity insurance was the forerunner for all types of health insurance. During times when there was only one health plan on offer the indemnity plan was it. It essentially covers you for emergency treatment and not for preventative care. If you don’t visit your doctor very often then this is an option for you. It will help you plan for the unexpected; emergency room visits can cost thousands of dollars once you take into account the cost of the ambulance, and if further treatment is required with a lengthy stay in hospital this price can escalate massively. The indemnity health insurance plan gives you complete control over which physicians and doctors you can see but it also requires that you get receipts for everything and look after the forms and paperwork yourself. Managed care plans. Managed care plans are the relative newcomers to the health insurance plan market. They have been designed and implemented to take a lot of this paperwork out of the health plan you choose and also concentrate on preventative care as well as emergency treatment. You will be expected to use doctors from a given list, though, restricting the choices you have when it’s time to visit your doctor. This is because fees and prices have been negotiated between your insurance company and the doctors that are on the list. Not only does this offer you the managed care plan but it means that any payments you are liable for will be cheaper as well. The managed care health insurance plan is usually the cheaper option of the two and by saving money using one of these you can often use that money for extra coverage or to lower your deductible value. More choices. Delving further into the options that await you for your next health insurance plan can lead to some very confused consumers. As well as these two options there are various plans that stem from the managed care plan. Because of recent criticism the plan networks have been coerced into providing a greater level of choice and while that offers you cheaper health insurance options it has also led to an almost baffling array of selections.
